a formal garment reflective of Sri Lanka’s culture, ecological diversity and landscapes
The end-suer required a formal garment to wear to a celebration of Sri Lanka’s 73rd Independence Day. This dress was inspired by the island’s diverse wildlife, landscapes and culture, particularly its abundance of peacocks. I was intrigued by the peacock’s vibrant colours and extravagance, which I utilised as a foundation on which to portray Sri Lanka. The rich colours of the silk and the gold accents of the embellishments, which glisten in their movement, convey the tropical sunshiance or Sri Lanka and its surrounding ocean.
